Are you ready for a change? Have you been struggling?
From time to time everyone needs some place that is a sanctuary, to feel like they are the most important person in the room. re:Vive’s well-trained, licensed counselors create a safe place for people to be heard, understood, and cared for while engaging in the process of growth and change.
Everyday, people make the decision to seek counseling for a variety of reasons. Whether they have experienced trauma, need to work through the pain of disappointment or conflict, are struggling with the effects of a mental health diagnosis, or simply need a place to sort through their feelings and find support in their desire to make a change, re:Vive’s counselors provide our clients with the opportunity to be the most important person in the room.
Deciding to pursue counseling takes courage, and choosing the right counselor may be overwhelming. Here are a few tips for selecting a counselor:
- Ask friends for a recommendation, and ask what they like about their counselor. Research tells us that 40% of what happens in the counseling room happens because of the relationship between the client and the counselor. A recommendation can be a great place to start.
- Call the counselor and ask if you can meet with them. Most counselors will meet with someone for a courtesy consultation to see if they are a good fit for the individual and their specific needs. When meeting for a consultation, consider how you feel with the person, whether you feel heard, and if the environment is comfortable for you.
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions such as where the counselor attended school, what additional or specialized training they have completed, what licensure they have, and what typical session or treatment process may look like. If you are looking for marriage counseling or family counseling, ask how often they work with relational issues.
re:Vive Counseling, Consulting, and Training is committed to supporting you and your pursuit of wholeness
Starting a counseling relationship can be daunting, even if this is not your first counseling experience. Trust the process. Relationships take time and so does building trust. In order for growth and change to occur, there has to be trust in the therapeutic process. It can take several visits before you feel you are making the changes you desire. Meeting with someone that provides a comfortable environment in which you feel safe and understood drives small changes that create momentum for larger change.
